GROW News Oct/2006

Posted by

Dear GROWers,

One of the reasons why there is development in society is because people try new things: some are good and succeed, others aren’t and fade away. I decided to launch the idea that GROW should have a monthly Newsletter, aiming at informing everyone in the group, and others, about the life in the group, what is going one, and so on, so that we can collaborate even better, and achieve our goals (at both the personal and the group levels) in a better way, besides enabling that we know each other better.

Below, you can find the first issue. It is expected that really everyone inside GROW contributes to this Newsletter, providing inputs until the 15th of each month, so that we have enough time to publish it by the end of the month. This idea can only be successful if everyone inside GROW collaborates! Filipe Cardoso, fcardoso@est.ips.pt, is the editor of the Newsletter, hence, he will collect your inputs.

One last note. This newsletter is being distribute to both current and former (formal and informal, i.e., former students that were supervised by me) members of GROW. I perfectly understand that the former ones may not be interested in receiving this kind of news. If that is the case, send me an email, and please accept my apologies for contributing to your email spam. On the other hand, if you know anyone that would like to be part of this distribution list, do let me know, and I’ll include the address.

Enjoy it.

Luis M. Correia

7. Website

GROW’s website, http://grow.lx.it.pt, has undergone a big makeover. The entire system was moved from a set of linked webpages to a website based on Plone, an open source content management system. This approach allows us to easily update the site, and keep it up to date. On the site you will find, among others, the contact information for the people in GROW, the projects we are involved in, and a list of our publications. Although it is not completely finished, most of the structure and information is already available.
