Lúcio Studer Ferreira

Lúcio Studer Ferreira (Senior Member, IEEE) is a lecturer, researcher and project manager working in the fields of wireless communications and computer science. His areas of expertise are wireless and mobile communications (involving radio access, mesh, sensor and cloud-based networks), as well as web-based integrated IT solutions. As researcher and project manager, he worked at Deutsche Telekom Innovation Laboratories, IST, Instituto de Telecomunicações, INOV-INESC, INESC-ID, Multivision Consulting, and COPELABS. He participated in 17 projects within European frameworks as researcher and project manager. As editor and author he contributed in more than 60 technical reports and and 15 prototypes, peer reviewed, approved and funded by the EC. He also acted as consultant for ANACOM national regulator, Portuguese mobile operators (Optimus, Vodafone and TMN) and transports (Metropolitano de Lisboa). As assistant professor, he has been with Universidade da Beira Interior, Universidade Lusiada de Lisboa, ISTEC and Universidade Lusófona. He is/was supervisor of 3 PhD and 14 MSc thesis and 17 final projects in IST. UBI and ISCTE. He authored more than 60 papers in international and national journals and conferences. He was invited reviewer of international research partnerships. He served as chair in 12 international conferences, and was technical committee member and reviewer of 26 international conferences and workshops. He was elected IEEE senior member in 2018, and is currently board member of IEEE Communications Society Portugal Chapter.

Viola player, member of Quarteto Arabesco, Os Musicos do Tejo and Divino Sospiro baroque orchestras, and Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra. Bachelor degree in viola from Academia Nacional Superior de Orchestra (1998) and post-grade studies in viola in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (2001).
